The weekend of October 26-28 will see a large number of promoters and fans heading to a number of Halloween-inspired music events. In an effort to help music fans sift through some of the many Halloween events taking place this weekend, below are some of our recommendations.

Fairmont’s Automaton Release Party at the Drake Hotel
Our top pick for music coming up this Thursday is Toronto-born, globally acclaimed electronic musician Fairmont‘s release party for his first full-length album in five years, Automaton (released via Toronto’s My Favourite Robot). Jake Fairley, who has toured the globe extensively with his hardware-based live set, will be performing at the Drake Hotel, alongside a DJ set from My Favourite Robot. In case you didn’t catch Jake at this year’s Sound In Motion festival – this is your chance. At only $5 cover all night, this will be a great show to start your weekend off with; a perfect blend of dance friendly electronica with Jake’s live vocals complimenting his equipment tweaks and improvisations. Ryan Hemsworth at Wrongbar
Canadian up-and-coming producer Ryan Hemsworth has been on a roll recently with a number of releases and remixes. The young musician’s hip hop infused electronic cuts combine emotional vocal samples and melodies with quick drum sampling and futuristic synth sounds, similar to some of the tracks played by the NCKBRK crew on their StudioFeed radio show, KRIX. Hemsworth will performing at Wrongbar, with a sound that’s not too tiresome as to wear listeners out before Saturday’s parties. Click the photo for more information.

Invisible City’s ITAL’O'WEEN at Bambi’s
Brandon Hocura and Gary Abugan of Invisible City are some of the most avid record collectors in the city. With no shortage of spooky, Halloween-like rare vinyl, their DJ set at Bambi’s this Saturday will likely be one of the most entertaining parties of the weekend. Join Brandon and Gary for what will be — in the words of Mr. Hocura — a night of very eclectic “dark and spooky dance music from around the world.” Check out their radio show below for a preview of some tunes you might hear on Saturday. If you aren’t already interested, we’d like to add that there will be no cover all night for this event. Click the photo for further details.
Speedy J at Footwork
Legendary Dutch producer and DJ Speedy J will be performing a late night set at Footwork. With things rounding out at ITAL’O'WEEN around 2 am, for those who like things a bit harder and aggressive, Speedy J will definitely hit the spot. His driving blend of experimental electronics and industrious, energetic techno will keep Footwork going until at least 4 am. With opening support from local talent Arthur Oskan and Nathan Barato, this show will satisfy even the most intense dance cravings. Click the photo for further details.
Disco Infernal with Move D
Toronto’s BreakandEnter crew have brought Germany’s Move D overseas for their Halloween event. Move D has released a large number of singles over his career on many esteemed labels, including Warp, Modern Love, liebe*detail and many more.
“Two rooms of house, techno and disco in “HELL”, as envisioned by artist Christian Aldo! He will turn our beloved Polish Combatant’s Hall into the Gaping Maw of Hell itself! Featuring the long awaited Toronto debut of German house legend MOVE D – playing a very special ALL VINYL SET!”

Hypnotic Mindscapes Halloween Vinyl Party
Sound In Motion artists Elextra will be performing as a part of the Hypnotic Mindscapes Halloween vinyl party. In addition to their trademark live instrument and vocal-based atmospheric house grooves, the party will also see Toronto producer/DJ and My Favourite Robot affiliate Aaron Santos spinning an all vinyl Halloween set.
The party will also include an interactive visual installation from the Hypnotic Mindscapes crew; those who saw their work at Sound In Motion will definitely be excited about this one!

Deep North & Earmilk.com present Remain
If you’re alive enough on Sunday night and have any shred of dancing energy left inside of your Halloween-costumed body, we recommend heading to the Deep North & Earmilk.com’s event, which is being headlined by French electronic musician Remain. Remain’s brand of house and techno blends lush synth work with house-influenced beats, and with additional sets from White Lions, and the Deep North’s own Dick Diamonds & more, what energy you have left will be finally espoused, in the most positive way.
Lido Pimienta at the Tranzac
For those wanting to wind down tempos and relax on Sunday, visiting the Tranzac to see Colombian-born musician and singer Lido Pimienta is a great option. Lido’s powerful vocal work, audible on her debut full-length record Color, are a great way to round out the electronic-heavy weekend. This show is also PWYC, no pumped up Halloween prices involved.
