StudioFeed Radio: Beatsploitation: Episode #12

In the twelfth episode of Beatsploitation, Sweet Jelly Roller guides listeners through over an hour of ‘religious’ themed funk and soul tracks.

A particular standout track in this amazing episode is “Soul Vibrations” by harpist Dorothy Ashby, taken from the album of the same name. “Soul Vibrations” eerily bends inĀ  and out over a funk-themed harp motif, evoking all of the love and fear associated with religious belief itself.

James Brown’s 10-minute “Mind Power” is also another unmistakable track (and Sweet Jelly’s own favourite from James Brown’s catalog), which pushes through flute and guitar grooves of undeniable spiritual funkiness.

Sweet Jelly Roller is also accompanied by StudioFeed Radio’s first ever dedicated visual artist, Shawn Herman, who provides the perfect backdrop of vintage film clips and hallucinogenic visuals as visible in the video of the archived live stream above.
