While there are a huge number of artists slotted to perform at this year’s Mutek festival, Vince highlights some of his favourites, ranging from the mellow ambience of German pianist Nils Frahm to the more dance floor driven aggression of new Jon Hopkins material.

Check out this great mix of electronic and experimental sounds and get a feel for some of the great artists performing at Mutek. Download the free mp3 mix from the Soundcloud player below, or check out the archived video above.

The Knife, Pursuit Grooves, Planningtorock, and the Black Dog are just some of the fantastic artists featured in the seventeenth episode of Vince Pollard’s ithinkx Show.

Fresh of the release of their highly anticipated new album, Shaking the Habitual, The Knife are as experimental as ever. As Vince notes, for fans who are expecting another iteration of their famous pop single “Heartbeats,” the Knife make little effort to replicate the career-changing track. However, the album retains some of the trademark ‘Eastern’ sounding melodies and themes, as well as classic ‘Knife’ vocal work, the Swedish duo show no signs of slowing their exploration of their avant-garde take on electronic music.

Additional highlights include a new track from The Black Dog, who revert to a more 90s-influence techno sound in their most recent work compared to what can be heard on their preceding Liber series.

Vince also features a track from Pursuit Grooves called “Great Light Regions,” which was recently self-released as a part of her new album Broadcasting A Sensory Sequence (B.A.S.S), which sandwiched between a couple of interesting tracks from AtomTM and Heterotic.

A major highlight from this episode includes a wonderful new track from Actress, who follows up last year’s R.I.P with arguably his best material since his 2010 album, Splazsh. From the aggressive soundscapes of the new collaboration between Tim Hecker and Daniel Lopatin to the more soothing pads of Brian Eno’s latest work, Vince shares another stunning hour of high quality electronic releases.

Contrasting the eerie, darker tracks in this episode is a comedic work from Boom Bip’s latest project; Music For Sleeping Children. Created with artist Charlie White, Music For Sleeping Children is an EP based on real interviews with five different teenage girls. Audio samples were taken from these interviews and used heavily in Boom Bip’s productions, yielding hilarious results.

This episode ranges from the more experimental sounds of artists like Emptyset and Xhin, to the more dance-floor friendly cuts from Jacques Greene and Nautiluss.

Keeping the quality caliber high as usual, Vince keeps listeners up to date on some of the newest electronic music, minimizing the endless sifting through digital mediocrity that is often associated with discovering new music online. Electronic music with an obvious sense of humour plays an integral role in this podcast, with rather comedic tracks such as “Zulu Compurar” by LV contrasting more typically serious electronic tunes.

Also included is a couple of tracks from Matmos’ most recent project, The Ganzfeld EP, which as Vince explains, was created from recordings taken during a sensory-deprivation study in which the musicians recorded their auditory experiences, then used these recordings as the basis for the tracks on the EP.

Up-and-coming Toronto-based electronic musician and Sound In Motion artist Knowing Looks is also featured in this episode, with a track called “Cytal Fink,” which was recently praised highly in a review in Resident Advisor.

Check out this awesome episode of the ithinkx show and keep yourself up to date with some of the most recently released electronic music out there.

Highlights from this episode include an awesome new track from Kiasmos — a new duo partly made up of Icelandic neo-classical composer Ólafur Arnalds — and a new track from Jessie Ware, who in the words of Vince is as “poppy as he gets.” Vince also plays a number of acid-tinged tracks, including one from Gatekeeper, which when purchased comes with it’s own video game.

In the ninth episode, Vince shares a varied selection of new tunes. Opening with a few darker, more industrial sounding tracks, Vince then lightens things up with a crazy Oneohtrix Point Never remix from Matmos, who schizophrenically samples a huge timbral palette in the busy re-working of the original. Stay up to date on some of the newest quality electronic music with Vincent Pollard on his ithinkx show.
